Ronnie C. Wright (born January 22th) is an American Literary Journalist, Author and Columnist also known as the world’s first Acroneticist for inventing Acronetics at the University of Florida and, for  “In The Arena Journalism” that incorporates what he coined ”triangular dialogue.”

Sir Edmund Burke wrote: “He well knows what snares are spread about his path, from personal animosity…and possibly from popular delusion. But he has put to hazard his ease, his security, his interest, his power, even his…popularity…He is traduced and abused for his supposed motives. He will remember that obloquy is a necessary ingredient in the composition of all true glory: he will remember…that calumny and abuse are essential parts of triumph…He may live long, he may do much. But here is the summit. He can exceed what he does this day.”

     Basically, all players, quarterbacks and coaches have a clear sense of duty, in their DNA. At first sighting – a few years earlier now – I began a record of Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators – their chemistry, artistry, style and grace under fire – a “growl of glory” if you will – captured in poetic motion. I have had a strong interest in the beauty of sports glory, in the heat of battle and, the stroke of genius produced through this glory by the blood, sweat and tears of champions.

     Armed with an official press pass, pen and pad in “The Swamp” – in the autumn, 2009 – a door opened for this project.

     I’m simply a writer who invented a way of writing coined “In The Arena Journalism” at the University of Florida with a sincere appreciation for sports, especially football and baseball, and for the dedication, preparation and implementation that goes into the game.

     I’m committed to highlighting Baseball, Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators in my work.

     I owe a special thanks to Professor William McKeen and the Bleacher Report for giving me an opportunity to shine, especially “in hot sun.”

     This season of sports poetry is created and published here to encourage those sitting on the sidelines of life that you too – can get into the game – just learn and enjoy the fundamentals demonstrated by Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators.

URBAN PUTS OPRAH IN THE BACKFIELD

by Ronnie C Wright
AN AUTUMN’S DAY – here I sit in the middle of ‘The Swamp’ with the best seat in the house. I just remember my imagination drifting in hot sun to Urban Meyer putting Oprah Winfrey in the Gators backfield.

     The game was tight with just minutes to go and, the Gators needed a key first down. I watched as TimTebow handed the ball to Oprah who ran straight up the middle for a winning touchdown. The crowd was completely wild! At that very moment, I wrote:

OPRAH IN THE BACKFIELD

Oprah in in the backfield –  Is the home team’s true-tried star puts us in the seats.

  With her talk and style, like a rare diamond,

 Her hot chocolate body in a designer uniform,

Today starts a new era tradition from the nation of Gators

, Cheer with committed hearts chump out the present hope

 And a butterfly in the pads.

Over the fans roar we see the inner courage:

Today’s oyster pearl and the sugar sweet promise in now

And a gem drives the engine;

 Lock, stock and speeding barrel, bold as her headline,

 Print on life’s purpose the casual and shirt-tee Root the tree trunk bench.

There is light and love directly over the barn fire,

Hope, pride and spirit in the season of maybe,

 Orchestra sound in the packed house;

Cheer with fire breath and fun, sparks the electricity

 From the field, grass green; and from the cooling sun The ice of cola on hand melts.

From the start it is an odd shaped ball ran

In the veteran tested hands

 In the web of silk and luxury in the magnificence of a run.

Scales the high wall of ivy;

 From stage and shining light moves the star in color,

Styles, in uniformed team jersey endorser’s written contract,

 Cha-ching from the cash registers.

Time for the tried and true believers of our voyage,

At present born in the gut,

 From “Just Do It” ad In an ‘O’ magazine on the sidelines;

 And the home team’s pick in fashion models, Shoes, watch and style entertain the faithful fan and fanatic,

Who have come to see Oprah In The Backfield.
